Job Summary

The Pastry Chef is responsible for designing, preparing, and presenting high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods for Akadu Bistro’s menu. This role involves creativity, precision, and attention to detail to ensure consistency and excellence. The Pastry Chef also oversees inventory management for pastry ingredients, maintains cleanliness, and leads the pastry team to meet production goals.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Pastry Design and Preparation

  • Develop and execute recipes for desserts, pastries, and baked goods that align with Akadu Bistro’s standards.

  • Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, frostings, and decorations using a variety of techniques.

  • Ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation of all pastry items.

2. Menu Development

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Culinary Innovation Team to create new desserts and seasonal menu items.

  • Experiment with flavors, ingredients, and techniques to develop unique offerings that delight customers.

3. Inventory and Cost Management

  • Monitor stock levels of pastry ingredients and coordinate orders to ensure availability.

  • Minimize waste by properly portioning and storing ingredients.

  • Manage production costs and maintain profitability without compromising quality.

4. Team Leadership and Training

  • Supervise and mentor pastry assistants or junior bakers, providing training on techniques and recipes.

  • Assign tasks and ensure the team meets production deadlines.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

5. Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure pastries meet Akadu Bistro’s standards.

  • Address customer feedback related to desserts and implement improvements as needed.

6. Kitchen Maintenance and Hygiene

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pastry section of the kitchen.

  • Ensure all equipment is clean, functional, and well-maintained.

  • Adhere to and enforce food safety and sanitation regulations.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Diploma in Culinary Arts, Baking, or Pastry Arts.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional pastry-making experience in a restaurant or bakery.

    • Proven expertise in creating a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced knowledge of baking techniques and pastry tools.

    • Ability to work with a range of ingredients, including chocolates, fruits, and glazes.

    • Skilled in decorating and plating desserts to enhance presentation.

  • Creativity and innovation to develop unique pastry offerings.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Leadership and communication skills to manage and train a pastry team.
